How much water to put in Oatmeal

If you've landed here, I know two things about you: First, you cook, and second, you are computer literate.

So . . . . How much water do you put in Oatmeal ?

First: Use as much water as you want to eat.

Second: Use an water to oatmeal ratio or proportion of 1 to 2.

• What ever water you boil, put in one-half that amount of oatmeal (rolled oats). Proportion examples:
  • 2 cups water -- 1 cup Oatmeal
  • 1 cup water -- 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 1.5 [one and one-half cups] water -- 3/4 cup of oatmeal.

  That proportion of 2:1 works for rolled oats. For steel cut oats, the ratio is 4:1 -- 1 cup of water and 1/4 cup of steel cut oats.

• When you're real tired in the morning, this is the better way to approach it:
  • You figure how much you want to feed people -- use that much water. An Oatmeal serving size is 1 cup of water per person, though Quaker's oatmeal containers suggest 1.5 cups of water for a "heart healthy portions".
  • You boil the water.
  • You add exactly half as much oatmeal.
