The ratio of water to regular oatmeal to water is 2 to 1. For typical steel-cut oats, it is 4 to 1. You would reasonably expect variations, some small, for high altitude cooking, thicker rolled oats, parboiled oats (or quick cook varieties), or if you cook using my recommendations such as with very low flames (as suggested with how to cook oatmeal or with how to keep oatmeal from sticking to the pot).

How much water to put in Oatmeal

First: Use as much water as you want to eat.

Second: Add one-half that amount of oatmeal (rolled oats) -- Use an water to oatmeal ratio or proportion of 2 to 1. Or, put another way: 2 parts water for 1 part oatmeal.
